School Field Trips for Kids of All Ages

Cooking is such a useful lifeskill! That’s one of the reasons Palates is so committed to helping kids learn how to cook.

Holding a field trip here at Palates can bring this skill to students of all ages.

But even more than learning how to cook, we hope to teach kids how to create healthy meals and enjoy the fruits of their labour.

Our talented instructors can customize wonderful hands-on cooking classes to meet the specific needs of your school or organization. In our relaxed and fun environment, we hope kids will be excited to learn, create, cook, and taste.

Housekeeping

  • Students can arrive a maximum of 15 minutes prior to the scheduled time for the field trip.  People who arrive sooner will not be able to come in until that time.
  • Long hair will need to be tied back and students must wear closed toed shoes.
  • To reduce waste, please bring containers to package leftovers.
  • Please make sure to confirm the number of students at least one week prior to the field trip. All charges reflecting this confirmation will stand thereafter.
  • Our site can accommodate wheelchairs, so students with such needs can certainly participate.
  • Ensure that our staff are made aware of any special considerations and needs of students who will be in attendance at least one week prior to the field trip.
  • As above, teachers/chaperones/supervisors are expected to assist students who may require additional help.  If this is not possible, particularly with larger groups, a second Palates staff member will be required for support at a charge of $50.00.
  • Please make sure to confirm the number of guests at least one week prior to your event. All charges reflecting this confirmation will stand thereafter.
  • Additional time arranged at time of booking will be charged at a rate of $50 for every additional 30 minutes. Unplanned additional time will be charged at a rate of $50 for every 15 minutes of additional time. Time will be rounded up to the nearest 15 minutes and charged accordingly. For instance, if participants remain in the centre for 20 minutes, the booking account will be charged for 30 minutes of additional time.
  • If you wish to bring your own food, snacks, beverages, a $50.00 surcharge will be applied for food allowed. No food items will be stored in Palate’s fridges due to sanitary considerations. Food items brought in must be prepared prior to coming to Palates; our kitchen is not for public use. Palates assumes no responsibility or liability for food items brought into the site.
  • No piñatas, confetti, or sprinkles of any kind are able to be used at Palates.
  • In order to reserve your event, the entire price must be paid upfront. This is nonrefundable. Should you need to cancel your event, a credit will be issued to your account if you cancel 2 weeks prior to your event date. With less than 14 days notice, no credit will be issued. Credits for event can only be used for a future party booking, no exceptions.
  • Should you need to reschedule your event, a minimum of 2 weeks notice is needed to change the date or time of your event without forfeiting your deposit. Changes made with less than 14 days notice will not be possible. In this case, if the date does not work, the event will unfortunately be cancelled and the deposit will be unable to be refunded (see above point concerning Palates’ credit policy). If the date of the event is changed twice, the deposit made will be forfeited, meaning you will need to create a new booking and pay a new deposit.

Choose From the Following Options:

Pizza

Pizza

Students start by shaping raw pizza dough.

They then customize their pizzas with fresh toppings.

The group will then move to the salad prepping station.

Students will learn the basics about lettuce; from how it’s grown to how we prep it for salad.

We then move on to making Palates’s signature home made Caesar salad dressing.

Once we have completed our cooking, the chefs can dine together and enjoy their creations in our dining area.

Pasta

Pasta

We start with a brief talk about where pasta originated.

The students are then introduced to the machines needed for making fresh pasta.

From here, students will begin working with pasta dough provided to them.

Using rollers and pasta makers, students will begin making their fresh pasta noodles.

As a group, we work together to make the tomato sauce that will top our noodles.

Next, the group will move to the salad making station to prepare Caesar salad.

Once we have completed our cooking, the chefs can dine together and enjoy their creations in our dining area.
